When Halloween Sneaks Up On You

Somehow, it’s Halloween again… and I still have my summer house decorations and flowers out. The pool? Not closed. The pumpkins? Nonexistent.

For a minute, I caught myself wondering why this was bothering me. Should I just skip straight to Christmas decorations? (Let’s be honest — half of my neighbors already have.)

But the truth is, as much as I love the look of all the little seasonal touches — the wreaths, the mums, the lights — the doing part doesn’t bring me joy.

I had the same realization a few years ago about cleaning my house. I love a clean home (thank you, mild OCD), but I just couldn’t get myself to actually do it. So I hired someone. And I don’t feel bad about it — not one bit. Because that small shift gave me time back: time to focus on what makes me happy, what makes me money, and what keeps me healthy.

So now, here I am again, staring at summer flowers in October, thinking — maybe this year, I’ll find someone to handle the decorating for me. Or maybe I’ll skip straight to Christmas. Or maybe… I won’t do any of it at all.

Will my kids notice? Maybe.
Will anyone else? Probably not.
And even if they do — it doesn’t really bother me.

Because here’s the truth: the more I prioritize me — my peace, my energy, my mental space — the less the small things feel like failures. They just… are. And somehow, that feels really good.

So, what are you letting go of this season?
Where can you take back a little space for your health, your happiness, your sanity?

Happy Halloween — and by the way, these aren’t my pumpkins… because, well, I didn’t get around to it.
